CMEC powers up infrastructure construction in Uruguay

China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach, agreed a 500-kilovolt power transmission and transformation ring network project with Uruguay on May 31. It makes great sense for Chinese enterprises to further explore Latin America’s infrastructure construction market.
An online signing ceremony was held to mark the agreement. Uruguayan Ambassador to China Fernando Lugris and the executive director of CMEC attended the event in Beijing, and Chinese Ambassador to Uruguay Wang Gang and Uruguayan government staff also witnessed the signing via video link.

Wang and Lugris lauded the project’s significance for the Latin American country and for China-Uruguay relations. They also shared opinions on the implementation of the project, and hoped that it will set an example for China-Uruguay cooperation and play a positive role in promoting the development of the Belt and Road Initiative in Latin America.

The CMEC leader met with Wang and Lugris before the signing ceremony, and explored future cooperation opportunities between the company and Uruguay in multiple fields. Following this in-depth exchange, all parties said they have full confidence in deepening cooperation in the future.
